What Parents Need to Know
​

Your child may be a subject of this study if they are a student at Notre Dame Collegiate in Grade 7 during the 2017/2018 or 2018/2019 school years.  Your permission is required for them to participate.  They do not participate in any aspect of the study without your prior consent or approval.

Your students will be completing a series of tests to measure their performance skills, their musical knowledge, and their collaborative ability.  They will complete these tests at the beginning of their Grade 7 year and at the end of their Grade 7 year.  None of these tests will impact their school marks, including their Grade 7 Concert Band mark.  You can follow their progress through their Research Profile, logging in using their Christ the Redeemer username and password (which you may need to ask them for).  You can also follow along the general research progress here.

The Proposal

This study has been approved by the Principal of Notre Dame Collegiate and the Superintendent of Schools for Christ the Redeemer Catholic School Division.  These two administrators are responsible for the education of the subjects of this study.

  • Administer Aural Musical Knowledge Test (mid-September 2017) (in progress)
  • Administer Student Attitudes toward Group Environments Test (mid-September 2017) (complete)
  • Administer Watkins-Farnum Performance Skills test (late-September 2017) (complete)
  • Report to Parents and Administration by October 15, 2017
  • Connect with Alberta-based Researchers, October 29, 2017 (complete)
  • Compiling Context Data (which schools offer which programs), November 15, 2017 (initiated)
  • Publish full and complete literature review (March, 2018)
